YOUNG ADULT SERVICES
ILS 512 Materials and Services for Adolescents – Providing good young adult service
includes researching local schools and community agencies. This research provides the basis for
referral services and may reveal possible partners for collaborative efforts. An assignment in this
course involved researching one local youth-oriented community agency.
Another project in ILS 512 – was the design of a young
adult library program. The News and
Reviews program designed is intended to create an ongoing program in the
library, but perhaps more importantly, with its web component it has the
potential to reach and allow participation by a much larger group of teens,
some of whom would never consider attending a library event.
ILS 512 – also included a review and evaluation of the
teen pages of public library websites, including the links they provide.
ILS 680 Evaluation & Research – In my capstone research chose to
focus on the instruction available to young adults regarding online public library resources
and their resultant level of use. The
findings underline a need for increased instruction, which to be both feasible
and effective, will probably require collaborative efforts.
