REFERENCE TOOLS
ILS

review that compared results of a complex Internet search using three different
search engines and a metasearch engine.
ILS
504 Reference and Information Materials and Services – In this course, a large
number of print reference sources were reviewed and used to answer sample reference
questions. Although the reference questions themselves are include, I have decided not to
include the review of print sources in this portfolio.
ILS
519 Acquisition and Development of Library Information and Services – This course included an
examination of sources of online information.
As an example, I include my commentary on government documents.
ILS
604 Advanced
Reference Materials and Services – A second search engine review was
completed in this course. Also, an
indepth study of DIALOG was completed, and although I may never use this
information source in a public library position, the work was important in
refining query skills. Reference
questions answered using DIALOG can be accessed through Reference Services.
In
ILS 695 Online Information Retrieval – a major project compared the information
