POLICIES AND PLANNING
A Project In ILS-511
Children’s Materials and Services – was a collection policy for the children’s
department in a public library.
In
ILS 503 Foundations of Librarianship – one assignment required that we choose a
community, assess its needs, and plan a new library or a significant expansion
of service. I chose to focus on two
rural counties in Washington State that are within a library system, but that
have service that is severely limited by distance, tiny libraries, minimal
hours of service, and language issues given that nearly 50% of the population
is Spanish-speaking. The plan I
developed was for an expanded mobile service that would focus
specifically on providing technical training and access in Spanish, and would also provide
delivery of library materials in both English and Spanish.
ILS
519 Acquisition and Development of Library and Information Resources – included the development
of a library disaster plan after a review of online resources available to
assist in such an endeavor.
Also
in ILS 519 – we
examined the public relations difficulties that can arise in response to
discard procedures, and developed a discard plan intended to minimize
them.
One project in ILS 604 Advanced Reference Materials and Services - required composing a policy page for an email reference service.
