INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES
ILS 511 Children’s Materials included designing an instructional program for children. I chose to create a Dewey Decimal Search Program for elementary classes visiting a public library.
Programs designed for a kindergarten class
in ILS 511 -were instructional in nature, although they were't required to be. The book-based
program included information about the author and was tied to their study of feelings. The
storytelling program included a discussion of folktales. The poetry
program covered variations in content and rhyme pattern. Preschool storytime themes planned
during my tenure at Sno-Isle Libraries are strongly science-based.
Also in ILS 511 –
Asked to prepare a subject bibliography of non-print materials and fiction suitable for K-6,
I focused on Christopher Columbus and chose to extend its usability by including generalized search
strategy instruction. In this portfolio I have separated the
fiction bibliography from that of the non-print materials, which includes the
search instruction, and from the added information for
teachers and parents.
ILS 604 Advanced
Reference gave me the opportunity to write an academic library instructional exercise for older students. The specific assignment was to create a facility and research orientation exercise that would be required of students in an entry level speech class as preparaion for a researched persuasive speech assignment.
