READERS’ ADVISORY SERVICES
In ILS-501
Introduction to Information Science and Technology – The primary purpose of an assignment in this class was
to build an enhanced webpage. However,
the content I chose to highlight is literacy advice for parents.
ILS-511
Materials and Services for Children –
In connection with a more extensive project referenced elsewhere in this portfolio, I wrote a
bibliography of Christopher Columbus-related fiction to enhance the study of this explorer
in the elementary grades.
In ILS-512
Materials and Services for Adolescents -
I wrote a bibliography of diary format titles whose purpose was to suggest better quality
titles to young adult fans of the The Black Book Series.
Also in ILS-512
span> - an assignment required me to write a curriculum-based
summer
reading bibliography for incoming high school freshmen.
ILS-604
Advanced Reference Materials and Services – This course required the
design of a new online service as a group project. My group felt that the
Naperville Public Library’s website needed more adult reader advisory services. The entire project is available from the
Group Projects page, but part of my contribution was a bibliography of shorter-length
humorous titles for busy adults.
Work and
Volunteer Experience – I gained practical experience in
readers’ advisory to a wide variety of individual patrons while working as a
children’s liaison for Sno-Isle Libraries. I have also been a volunteer in the KCLS
Words on Wheels program for three years, choosing and delivering print and
audio visual materials for special needs children and older adults. Resume
